Dental Benefits

If you are fortunate to have an employer who offers dental benefits, remember that those benefits are negotiated between your employer and your insurance company.  Your dental benefits are only meant to assist you in financing your care.  Insurance companies do not recognize some routine and up-to-date dental treatments.  Your insurance company states that it will cover up to 100% or 80% or 50% of certain procedures, but it does not clearly explain what limitations exist.  For example, your insurance company may elect to pay 80% of a mercury filling rather than 80% of a tooth-colored filling even though a mercury filling would not be the best treatment of choice for you as a patient.  It is important to understand that what your employer and insurance company provide does not necessarily represent the best treatment for you.  These limitations are defined in a contract between your employer and your insurance company.  If you have any questions regarding the specifics of your benefits, you must contact your human resources department or insurance company directly.  We will, however, do our best to help you receive the maximum reimbursement from your insurance company, but understand that we do not have any control over the benefits that have been offered to you by your employer.  As a courtesy, we will submit any electronic or paper claims to your insurance company on your behalf.
